Chaco ZX/2 Unaweep Sandal - Women's

Chaco's ZX/2 Unaweep Sandals offer a high level of comfort for people with bunions or funky shaped knuckles since the double-strap design is more accommodating than a single, ¾-inch strap. Chaco's Vibram Unaweep outsole grips on sandy desert trails or river bottoms. The Chaco BioCentric contoured footbed still lends solid support for long days on your feet even though it's 20% lighter this year. The ZX/2 toe strap holds your feet securely for long downhill walks and off-camber scrambling.

Bottom Line: Chaco's Z/X2 makes long hikes easy on your feet.

Straps like to slide

By:
December 4, 2008

This is my second pair and of this same style and I can't seem to get these straps to stop sliding. I either have to leave the strap very loose at the ankle or it cinches up on my toe. Also these are narrow, I like my other pair that is a size smaller in a wide. I'm hoping that with some more wear the strap will start to stay in place better.

I would go with the 7. You certainly don't want to end up with them being too small.

I'm thinking of purchasing these shoes. I printed off the sizing chart from the website and by no means does it say I should order a wide but I know I do not have skinny feet. Will the straps adjust to my feet width.

If the sizing chart says you don't need a wide, then you don't. The straps will adjust.

these were for the lady-friend, and as expected they have pleased! I have a pair of the old mens version that would probably need to be surgically removed at this point. Great quality, and once broken in you wont be able to not wear them.

worth the price tag

By:
October 3, 2008

as a high school student with no steady income, these shoes were a little more pricey than my average flip flops(YAY REEF'S!!),but they are totally worth the price of two pairs of REEF'S mainly because they go ANYWHERE you do and go there well. they are sturdy, yet light and supportive without being confining like most shoes. you get it all with these sandals so don't wait, get them:)

Solid Sandal

By:
September 24, 2008

These are a hearty pair of sandals. I was looking for a good pair to wear instead of flip flops while biking. The straps do take a while to adjust though. I have taken a break trying to do that now that fall weather is creeping in. I'm confident that the sandals will be great once the strap adjustment is done.

By:
September 14, 2008

ADORABLE!!! And makes you feel like your wearing someting safe for both your feet and your back. I've had a history of wearing lots of high heels and flip flops, after a major back surgery with a ruptured disc I've been looking for an attractive looking but "good for you" pair of shoes to wear during the summer. They look good with shorts, capris, & jeans. Love them-love them-love them!!!!

This is my fourth pair of Chacos and are by far my favorite. I wear a size smaller in these than I do the flips, but they fit like a glove, are oh so comfortable, and I get comments about them all the time. Couldn't beat the price either.

By:
August 28, 2008

They are mighty comfy. I am usually a 7 and was a 7 in these so the size was dead on. The double strapness was a little difficult to fit and i had to play around with it for a while to get it where i wanted. But i can definitely walk in them for hours on end;)

Go for it

By:
August 22, 2008

I tried these on in the store and found that some pairs of these shoes are very stiff, which makes it very difficult to adjust the straps. Luckily, the pair that I received from Backcountry did not have this problem and they were very easy to adjust. Once you have them just right, they pretty much stay that way and you don't have to keep readjusting them, as other reviewers seem to say that you do. I am very happy with these sandals and personally I would highly recommend them for walking around town, doing yard work, river adventures, etc. Super comfortable and a great price right now. Also, the double straps are much more attractive and feminine than the single strap.

By:
August 21, 2008

Like the previous poster, I LOVE these shoes. They look great, and because of Chaco's adjustable straps, the fit is perfect no matter what your foot shape. I shopped around for 2 weeks before I found them at this price. I really hated to spend the full $95 price, and I'm really not sure they are worth all that. But they are definitely worth the sale price. Excellent shoes!

Great Shoes! Poor Pricing!

By:
August 19, 2008

I ordered the shoes to go to Bear Lake, UT. They were wonderful! In the water, boat, dirt, hiking, biking all of it. However I was not happy to see the next week they went on sale from $95.00 to $66.00, I would have ordered a 2nd pair however my money was spent on just one pair. Love the shoes, hate the price!

How are the ZX/2 Unaweep Chacos (double straps with the toe loops)...

How are the ZX/2 Unaweep Chacos (double straps with the toe loops) for people with bunions? Do they make the oddly angled big toe feel/look weird? Would the ZX/1 (double strap with no toe loop) be better for a toe that points outward (such as a toe that points outward at a 30 degree angle--a normal big toe points straight or at 0 degrees)?

By:
August 16, 2008

I don't have bunions but do have a large big toe knuckle. My ZX/2 Chacos fit sweetly over this spot. They do become more comfortable as you go. A really stable sandal with a nice arch. I got them for river fun and they are perfect for this. Hop out of the water and throw on skirt. Now they are just cute shoes!

Great sandals

By:
August 15, 2008

It took me awhile to get the adjustment right (OK I did not read the directions right away). Once I got them adjusted they were great and I love them. I wanted a sturdy travel sandal that looked ok in a city (Barcelona) but were stong enough for hiking in Greece. These are perfect and I wear them all over now.

Are they useful when cliff jumping?

By:
August 7, 2008

Yes! I bought these shoes with the intent of their being VERY versatile. I've used them, and loved them, for playing ultimate frisbee, as well as for climbing on wet rocks, without fear of losing my footing, after jumping off a cliff into a lake. They also dried really quickly, which is a big plus. One last bonus is that they leave really cool tan lines on your feet. If you leave the straps loose enough you can get them on and off pretty quickly and they are really comfortable to wear a little on the looser side.

Still a Teva girl

By:
August 4, 2008

Every sales person I met really pushed the Chacos. I tried on several pairs. I liked the color of these so I ordered them. The bottom line is Chacos take longer to put on than Tevas (important when chasing a toddler). Chacos are much heavier than Tevas. The Chaco interior foot bed is much rougher than Tevas. I was looking for a pair of sandals to replace the Tevas I've had for 4 years (and worn almost every day). I've worn Tevas since 1991. The local outdoor store owner that I finally purchased my new Tevas from was impressed with how they had lasted for 4 years. She too pushed the Chaco (what sort of commission are they offering?) but agreed that the Teva is more comfortable, less heavy, and faster (and LESS EXPENSIVE). I'm very happy with my new Tevas (the Terra-Fi 2) and I'll be returning the Chacos.

August 3, 2008

This shoe is great. I work at a lake and I'm on my feet all day and these shoes are great for me. Very comfortable with excellent support. I wouldn't recommend these shoes for boat shoes because the tread is slightly slippery. Overall, it's a great shoe and I totally recommend them!

I love these shoes! Currently training for a half marathon and love to slip into the chacos after a run. Hike in them all the time and can wear them with jeans, shorts and skirts. Definitely understand how the straps work, the box comes with great instructions on how to use them. I love these shoes, great support in walking. Shipped extremely fast, figured I would be waiting for awhile, came only a few days after I ordered.

These sandals were great to hike in. and they look good too. My only advice is to make sure those straps fit snugly to prevent your foot from sliding around too much, especially going down hill. i made that mistake and got some not so fun blisters on my arches.

They dont come in half sizes and they are a bit bigger. If you are 9.5 get a 9 and it will fit great. Keep in mind my wife has a pair and she does not have super wide feet and these are a smidge too narrow for her.
If you have really wide feet, get the comparable in a mens sandal.

Favorite Sandals

By:
April 25, 2008

this chaco sandal is just wonderful. i see that many have complained about the straps, but i think that's because a lot of people aren't aware of how to adjust them. you have to take some time to get these right from the get go, but once you do that, you're all set! the arch support on these is great for me, and i find them really stable for various sporting endeavors. plus, the style is perfect for me. i think the straps on this model are more feminine and pretty than some of the other chaco offerings--especially on my larger size feet. as for sizing, i am an 8.5-9 in street shoes, and i ordered a 9. i would say my feet are a little on the narrow side.

let your feet get used to those straps before you take them on a long hike. i didn't do that and got some blisters on the sides of my big toes. but those straps fit pretty snugly so there isn't too much rubbing.

Maybe you shouldn't get the ones which fit the toe. I use the other ones, and they are fantastic. No rubbing at all even if you wear them all day long.
